Great American Cleanup Month Proclaimed

On March 17th, Board Members from Keep Pickens Beautiful met with Commissioner Rob Jones, Commissioner Becky Denney, Mayor John Weaver of Jasper, Mayor Carol Opdenhoff of Talking Rock and   to officially proclaim April, 2015 as the official “Keep Pickens Beautiful/The Great American Cleanup” month for  Pickens County.  KPB appreciates the fact that our community leaders came together to make this proclamation and to support our continuing efforts to keep our community looking beautiful and clean.

Keep America Beautiful reported the results of the Great American Cleanup of 2014 as follows:
  • 37 Million pounds of litter and debris collected, 7,200 miles of water ways and shorelines cleaned
  • 2 Million volunteers totaling 7.9 million volunteer hours
  • 3 Million educational work shop attendees
  • 108,00 Parks, public lands cleaned, 41,00 trees planted
  • 2 Million pounds of hazardous waste collected
  • 71 Million Pet (plastic bottles) collected
