Monument Cleanup

October 2015 Getting a face lift.

Keep Pickens Beautiful is cleaning up the Marble Monument on Highway 515. The monument was given a good scrubbing and plans are being made to install a new flood light, replacing the old light with a LED long lasting energy saving bulb.

The Monument was dedicated in September, 2004; it weighs ten ton and was a 3 year long project. The marble was donated by Georgia Marble – Polycor.  This monument is to recognize the marble industry and its contribution to Pickens County and the citizens of the north Georgia Mountains for over three generations.  We can all be proud of the people who worked and toiled in our county mines and quarries. This monument was a community project involving the State, County, and City employees. spearheaded by KPB.
